Sesiguzel sets a standard and works hard to live up to it. The diversity of voices in the film is impressive and enriches the history as well as helping viewers to get a better grasp of the arguments being made today.

Unearthing the facts is difficult, but the filmmakers tenaciously present the truth in a strikingly well-assembled narrative without taking sides, punctuated by personal recollections that add intensely emotional angles.

What is disappointing about The Divided Island is that it’s positioning itself as starting a necessary discussion during an important historic milestone in the history of Cyprus, but goes on to tell a Wikipedia summarizing of the events.
