Movie Info

A heartwarming comedy about six piano players striving to win the World Championship of Old-Time Piano (mostly ragtime). With brilliant showmanship and skill these competitors vie for the glow of victory, for escape from the trials of their everyday lives, and for the revival of the first distinctly American popular music.

Audience Reviews for The Entertainers

A straight-forward look at a group of musicians attempting to revive a near-extinct style of American popular music. It's mostly a by-the-book competition documentary where ordinary people -- office assistant, computer programmer, machine operator, librarian, author, high-school student -- showcase extraordinary talent; in this case reviving remarkably complex pieces of ragtime music (from late 1800s-1920s). The difference with this contest is that the "competition" is more of a celebration of music amongst the a COMICON for ragtime piano music. The result is a happy movie with a tremendous amount of heart. I left smiling and oddly enough, feeling patriotic. It's nice. It's wholesome. It's fun. -- saw this at the St. Louis International Film Festival
