The Extraordinary Journey of Celeste Garcia (El viaje extraordinario de Celeste García) Reviews

  • Oct 14, 2018

A fun, delightful yet thought-provoking little comedy that fills much bigger shoes than what one might think at first glance. When a retired teacher and volunteer planetarium docent who has led a largely frustrating life is part of an alien-invited contingent to visit their faraway world, she looks forward to the prospect of being able to start over. But is the offer all it's cracked up to be? And is it what she really wants? That's what she must wrestle with in this quirky but insightful Cuban offering full of colorful characters, offbeat incidents and absurdist humor, with ample symbolic political commentary thrown in for good measure. There's more going on than meets the eye in this one, so pay close attention and don't be so quick to dismiss it as throwaway fluff.
