Aging N Sep 28 As Editor of Stephen Janis’s initial written works with former Pocomoke City Police Chief Kelvin Sewell beginning a decade-and-a-half ago, I am overwhelmed by the insight and excellence of “The Friendliest Town,” the principal documentary in a much-anticipated series by The Real News Network. Although not a native Marylander, Stephen has a unique feel for the underdog and downtrodden — not just in our state but everywhere — in particular the mistreated and put-upon minorities especially in Baltimore… assisted by his equally sympathetic and intuitive partner Taya Graham, who adds Hollywood-style glamour and expertise to everything brilliant the two of them report and film, bringing personal touches to serious subjects like the egregious mistreatment of Chief Sewell as documented in this fine film, which plays like a big-theater movie due to Janis’s award-winning artistic and musical talent along with Graham’s charm and wit. As investigative reporters par excellence Janis and Graham transform serious news into personal storytelling that is so compelling the viewer literally cannot turn away, as compared to a page-turning book the reader is unable to put down.
