The Fundamentals of Caring (2016)

Critic Consensus: The Fundamentals of Caring gets maximum mileage out of the chemistry between its well-matched leads as it follows a fairly well-worn coming-of-age road trip route.

Death, taxes, the enduring adorability of Paul Rudd: these things, at least, we know for certain.

It pulls its punches, and soft-pedals on any authentic misery that its scenarios might evoke. But its essential amiability and decency comes through.

I enjoyed "Fundamentals of Caring," but it's hard not to notice it amounts to a checklist of all the things that were once supposed to add up to an inspiring indie hit.

Another of those quirky little indie movies that try so hard to please Sundance, and while I really like it in its first hour (especially because of its performances), it almost sinks in its third act when it starts to give in to unnecessary clichés and some cheap sentimentality.

A few laughs. Didn't expect to like it, but was quite a nice movie.

Lovable mix of "Intouchables" and "Little Miss Sunshine". While it starts out a bit slow, once the humor hits the ground running there is plenty to admire here. Handicapped people have the same right to be made fun of like anyone else, right? Rudd's charm works great in this role, the rest of the cast is just as excellent. Of course some parts end up a little cheesy, but they are always countered by a great sense of humor way beyond the politically correct scale. Feel-good movie with lots of heart and laughs.
