I hated the original book for its lack of an actual plot, an engaging storyline (if there was any storytelling in that piece of literature), crap dialogue, & an abundance of corny material. I'll give it credit for being well written & having realistic likable asshole characters. The 60s or 70s version of the book was an agonizing experience; much worse than reading the book (the noticeable bad acting & poor dubbing of Daisy being the least of its problems). It's problem was staying close to the book. Hopefully Baz's adaption stays true to the source & (like Hardwick with Twilight) improves on it.

EXACTLY how I feel! This book is ridiculously overrated. Although it has some solid and distinguished assets, it is definitely not a great book. English teachers and literary fiction fans need to stop mindlessly raving about this.

Teachers only use this because its technically a well written piece of literature, which it is. But is it a good book? Definitely not.

"This film marks the official moment in which Baz Luhrmann's signature style has become self-parody. So we beat on, boats against the current, jumping the shark."
I'm assuming Luhrmann ruined it..

Um, there was an embargo for the Dark Knight Rises till the Monday of the week it was released... so this doesn't really mean anything.

usually reviews are updated the monday before the movie comes out. no need to panic.
