Using the same actors repeatedly is tiresome. Toshiro Mifune's shtick got old, but I like his pudgy gut. The fight/action scenes are pretty bad, especially the duel. Great to see his first spunky main female character. See more Kevin P @RT55971421 Jan 19 An epic samurai movie by Akira Kurosawa that was heavily influential for Star Wars. The two peasants bickering are very funny. Princess Yuki is awesomely defiant and a clear inspiration for Princess Leia. There is an impressively large-scale prison riot ambush. The former Samurai hero commands a great deal of respect and fear. His fight scenes are awesome, but very methodical and clever. The peasant duo have a lot of personality with great physical acting. I liked the clever plan to hide the gold inside sticks and logs while traveling with horses across the border. There's a great scene where Princess Yuki humiliates sleazy men in a bar. The action ramps up when scene the retired Samurai duels former colleague. This is followed by a beautiful fire festival parade dance sequence. The climax is tense and is cleverly resolved with a great heel-faced turn. The film is a very exciting and funny samurai adventure story that's highly influential to Star Wars. It stars Toshiro Mifune, Minoru Chiaki, Kamatari Fujiwara, Misa Uehara and Susumu Fujita. The cinematography was done by Ichio Yamazaki. It was distributed and produced by Toho Company, Limited. Vision wrote: "the film tells the story of two peasants who help to distract a man and a woman across enemy lines in return for gold. The adventures of Tweedledum and Tweedledee. I admire the early occupation and trample. Great early tempo but the rest of the film seems to linger and stretch on too long, except the one-on-one duel. Toshiro Mifune showcases his might. Admire the festivities throughout the film. Excellent cinematography and production. Three and a half fries for the cinematography, direction and the production." (Also, if you are interested in "Star Wars" influences, watch "The Hidden Fortress." George Lucas had to have been influenced more than the peasants for his creation of R2-D2 and C-3PO.)
