I'm not ashamed. I just ruined my keyboard.

I just hope he has enough material to work with where nothing is invented and the movies don't feel bloated. But I trust Peter Jackson to deliver.

I think it's an interesting concept. For those who have read the appendices and Tolkien's notes and unfinished works, it will be amazing to see some of these things on screen that we never would have hoped to. For those that simply read the books, it should be a welcome surprise to see these off-hand situations fleshed out. In the book, Gandalf just disappears for 1/2 of the narrative to deal with the Necromancer with Radagast the Brown. In the films, we'll actually get to SEE it. Consider me excited.

Very excited to hear about a third Hobbit film. Can't freaking wait for these movies!

We are still talking about breaking up ONE story into three separate stories. Tolkien did the same thing with LOTR, but no matter how great a team they are, Jackson and Walsh are not Tolkien. Call me skeptical.

You sir, may very well be eating humble pie.

I actually hope you are right about that.

Thematically the story has pretty varied tones between the onset of the journey and Bilbo finding the ring, Bilbo's growth and newfound strength as they march on and go through Elf-land etc (I assume movie two will end somewhere around the hidden door to Smaug's lair), and the conclusion with Smaug and the Battle of Five Armies. Throw in a shitload of detail from said appendices including the much anticipated Necromancer subplot and you have IMO more than enough meat and smooth enough segue for three films.

Heck I'm just glad you said it first. I am excited to see 3 New Middle Earth Films...but if this really is taking a story that can be told in 28 minutes and stretching it over 9 hours (because you know there will be extended blu rays that are 3 hours long for each of these 3 films) then I'm skeptic too. What is it that he wants to throw in to such a simple story?

Don't know if it is just me but announcing future films of a film that isn't even out spoils the enjoyment of watching a movie. The whole mystery has gone of whether they will make another one or not.

Except that Jackson did the same thing with Lord of the Rings and that worked out well.
