Despite its controversy and its Bone Tomahawk style violence, it has nothing to say, but it says it way too loudly.
June 22, 2020
Aspirations aside, The Hunt is long on gratuitous violence, short on political commentary...

Unfortunately the message ends up coming across as, "Hey we're all the same! If we just came together, we would stop fighting" - a message confirmed in the special features by the filmmakers, btw - and it just doesn't work. ESPECIALLY RIGHT NOW.

It's outré-ness is entirely performative, which isn't at all surprising in this climate. In an economy based on what people say rather than what they do, this trend in cinema has been on the cards - it's Twitter writ large on the screen.
June 17, 2020
The writing is hack, sounding more like an anonymous internet comment than how people actually speak to one another. This poorly-written script crumbles under the smallest amount of pressure.
June 17, 2020
There's so much judgemental snark that scriptwriters Nick Cuse and Damon Lindelof come across no better than the trolls they're making fun of.
May 28, 2020
A few decent moments it may have, but ultimately, it makes a mockery of itself.
April 18, 2020
Filmmaker Craig Zobel delivers an exceedingly erratic piece of work...
April 7, 2020
Too scared to truly provoke, too pointless to truly sting.
April 1, 2020
The Hunt eventually abandons its us-versus-them orientation to declare airily and homiletically that there are extremes on both sides, and that thinking the worst of people just inspires them to behave as badly as you had imagined.
March 30, 2020
It's a pretty blunt, modern re-run with blunt, broad political satire on both sides, not much of which hits home...
March 29, 2020
Betty Gilpin shines in this disappointing, dull satire. [Full review in Spanish]
March 25, 2020
The Hunt tries to shock with gory violence and bad taste jokes, but the most surprising thing about it is just how predictable, boring, and utterly devoid of a point it is.
March 24, 2020
The Hunt is no kind of grand political statement, and it would have been so much stronger if it had been.
March 22, 2020
No one could possibly be offended by The Hunt, because that would require it to contain at least one comprehensible idea.
March 22, 2020
An instantly-iconic 'this is a born action-heroine' turn by [Gilpin] ... She looks sharp with the weapons, spits out her one-liners with aplomb and looks like an absolute beast in the brutal hand-to-hand combat moments.
March 20, 2020
There's a movie about how divided we are out there somewhere, without the fear of reprisal and the bothsidesism that softens The Hunt's brute force, less interested in self-scolding than in making something authentically brazen.
March 20, 2020
The only thing more deadly here than the bullets are the bullet points flying at you so fast, so furiously.
March 20, 2020
The Hunt has very little to recommend outside of a few good gore gags and Betty Gilpin delivering the goods.
March 19, 2020
The violence is hyperbolic, the satire galumphing and Glow's Betty Gilpin, as a Southerner who outwits her captors and turns the tables on them, the sole redeeming feature.
