The Immaculate Room tells the story of Mike (Emile Hirsch) and Kate (Kate Bosworth), a seemingly perfect couple, join a psychological experiment to compete for 5 million dollars if they can last 50 days in a sleek, white room in complete isolation. No phones, no family -- only the Voice of the Immaculate Room keeping them in check if they think of straying. But as the clock ticks down, the Room becomes more than it seems, putting them through cruel tests to break their resolve and resurfacing private demons which they may not survive.

Sometimes, high concept means an absence of concept altogether. Like a sensory deprivation tank, the new non-thriller The Immaculate Room is so empty it dares you to fill it up with your own ideas and narrative stuff.

The Immaculate Room is a textbook example of a film that is perfectly fine, though it never quite reaches the potential of its premise. It centers on a compelling high-concept idea, but the execution feels disappointingly bland and safe, opting for predictable psychological tropes rather than truly pushing any boundaries. While it doesn't reinvent the thriller genre, the performances are solid enough to keep it engaging. Ultimately, it’s a decent enough watch to pass the time if you're looking for a low-stakes exploration of human isolation.

I cannot believe this movie wasted this much time of my life! If you’re gonna drag it out for so long, and then the payoff was terrible I feel like I got robbed.

Intriguing experiment sadistically underhanded solely to stir, which intervenes the perceptive simulation rather physically assisted than psychologically as originally expected. No matter what the course, it still realizes in expected truth being minimally polished from little dive. (B-)

Solid performances, but the story falls short of the potential of the high concept. This is a good story, but we aren't watching the first, last or most portant run of this social experiment/show. It is an interesting choice to chronicle this couple and the relatable, but challenging dynamic, and while it doesn't have as big of a punch as audiences usually expect in this style of story, it is still a rewarding experience.

A film doesn't get much more minimalist than this. Unfortunately, that minimalism doesn't allow for much of anything else, but it makes good use of what it has. Derpy ending did it no favors.
