I watched 'The Last American Hero' a week after the 'Justified' series finale. It was refreshing to see a movie that actually cared about capturing the verdant beauty of southern Appalachia (as well as the Carolina Piedmont). The producers of 'Justified,' a show set in the mountains of eastern Kentucky, didn't care about that at all. It was shot in California, and they didn't try to hide it. There are no burnt, bare hills and scrub in Appalachia or the Piedmont; both are lush and blanketed with trees.

Decent, but not spectacular, car-racing movie. Solid enough plot and direction. Just lacks something special. Doesn't seem overly profound, or engaging.

Good performance from Jeff Bridges in the lead role.

Strongly recommended for NASCAR and Dukes of Hazzard fans.

Jeff Bridges, Gary Busey and car racing.

Jeff Bridges is terrific and very convincing in the lead role. The story has very uneven pacing and jumps around through various subplots a little too often. Good supporting cast and the theme song by Jim Croce was a big hit at the time. Really well edited and the cinematography is quite good. It's a good film, just isn't as thrilling as it could have been.

in this "rags to riches" story bridges plays a young and ambitious driver who moves from running moonshine to the nascar circuit. and apparently this is based on a true story. good performances by the cast - and it's chock full of 70s/80s character actors like, ned beatty, ed lauter, william smith, and lane smith to name a few. interesting to see what nascar looked like back in the early 70s - much different than it is now.

Great racing and driving sequences and a fine Jeff Bridges performance... the romantic subplot seems a little obligatory.

Fine drama even if you're not a race fan. Jeff Bridges gives a customarily excellent performance strongly supported by Valerie Perrine, Geraldine Fitzgerald and Art Lund. An added plus is that the movie's theme song, I've Got a Name. a particularly fitting choice given the subject, is sung by Jim Croce.

I guess for early 70's it was cool. Not a car racing fan at all here but it probably appeals to a large audience.

Good cast, but not so interesting story of moonshine runner turned race car driver. I only watched this because William Smith had a supporting role and he wasn't in it nearly enough.

After a fumbling start which looks like bad editing for TV, The Last American Hero settles into some good, gritty, family Southern Americana.

The Punisher: The revenge of Saint is gritty, dark and shows promise for this movie. Unfortunately things start to fall apart in the second half, when the movie has trouble deciding whether it wants to play it straight or not. Lacks the dark humour from the comic books, but has potential as a franchise. Thomas Jane is perfect as Castle, which was nice. Once again the henchman is cooler than the main bad guy (Will Patton needs to be respected fools!)

The Last American Hero: Typical ?loser becomes hero? story, but Bridges made it worth my time.

Midnight Express: Based on a true story, so you just know lots of stuff was changed. Still, it?s a very affecting story that profits from its unique setting (the prison in Turkey is worse than those in other prison movies).

Tommy: A sharp satire on religions even if the movie?s all over the place. Excellent music by The Who (Pinball Wizard = awesomeness). Probably the closest you?ll ever get to an LSD-experience without doing any.
