Notorious studio interference and script rewrites gives the impression of a film at war with itself, so it’s incredible it turned out as well as it did. The action sequences are choppy and often difficult to get a handle on, as was the style at the time. The story is standard ‘underdogs vs rich baddies’ set up, full of ruthless goons, car chases and shootouts where the antagonists are required to be both stupid and colossally bad shots in order for the plot to progress. You wont think too much about the ins and outs of the narrative, or at least you shouldn’t, but you’ll be swept up in all the flashy action, cool set pieces and hard-hitting action beats.
