Ivan S @Ivansmith 4 hrs ago I love Wagner Moura just as much as the next guy hence why I tried this movie. Starts of with a dark tone a couple minutes in. Where you are present with the location for the whole movie. Tbh I skipped the majority of the pointless sub plots because in all honesty we’re here for action. In a sci-fi with aliens taking over the world you expect as many people to die from the aliens on screen than the years that the family spend in the house. Yup it was a lovely 5 years they were cooped up there. I’m only hating here because one of the aliens which kept them in that house for 5 years got shot by the family, pretty much buried alive and harpooned let the family live because they cut it loose when it was stuck. Ooooh the ending diesel has a resting life of around a year if temperature are perfect so the boat that the family took at the end of Movie wouldn’t work plus they would need to find fuel along the way. One of the bad sea creatures is actually good and holds ultimate sway over all the other creatures. So after the humans shoot it a few times, harpoon it, bury it under a house, and hold a knife to its eye it decides to tell all the bad aliens to be nice to the humans. Then all the humans and the sea creatures return to the ocean for some idiotic reason. None of what follows is their fault. A family of four is mysteriously sealed inside their home by an unseen force: doors won’t open, windows won’t shatter, as weeks and then years tick by. As a naturally claustrophobic person with fresh pandemic lockdown scars, this experience stressed me out considerably, which is a point in its favor. But overall it’s just a good idea, with subpar execution. The film is too inert to fully explore its oceanic creature-feature premise, and the schmaltzy ending undoes nearly everything that came before it, shattering the bounds of believability into so many little shards. One suspects this was aimed at people who fancy they’d survive the apocalypse with pluck and a seed garden. Most of us would not make it past day one. See more Read all reviews
