Movie Info

A team of medical workers set out to bring needed care to a community gripped by poverty in this drama from filmmakers Santiago Loza and Ivan Fund. Three women with a background in medicine travel to San Cristobal, a small town in Argentina's Santa Fe province, to do volunteer work with a clinic for the poor and indigent. Coca (Adela Sanchez) is caring and practical, Noe (Eva Bianco) is coolly intelligent, and Luchi (Victoria Raposo) sometimes has trouble dealing with all that's happening around her. They arrive in San Cristobal to find that Raul (Raul Lagger), who arranged for their visit, is well meaning but often clueless, and in lieu of more traditional accommodations, he's having them stay in the wreckage of an abandoned hospital. Despite the many obstacles, the women are dedicated to their task, and they interact with the destitute villagers looking for medical care and advice on how to improve their lot in life. Los Labios (aka The Lips) was an official selection at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

  • A small film with a gigantic heart, The Lips casts a spell far greater than its modest narrative.
