The Love Hypothesis follows a familiar rom-com formula, but its healthy dose of humor and palpable chemistry between Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman make it a satisfying comfort watch.

This is a naff, cloying and really, really silly movie. It contains some of the clunkiest dialogue ever committed to film Go to Full Review

There is so much here that I wanted to be able to enjoy. I think Lili Reinhart has something, but I think there's not enough kind of oomph in this character maybe. Go to Full Review

It’s as fun, fluffy and forgettable as a straight-to-DVD 2000s romcom, which is meant as a compliment! Go to Full Review

For a movie written and directed by women, it seems to miss the unspoken theme of its source material, and what drives many a female fantasy - a person in power who is unequivocally on your side. Go to Full Review

The Love Hypothesis is a charming but predictable romantic comedy elevated by Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman’s chemistry, while Olive and Anh’s friendship adds heart. Go to Full Review

J C @Strawberryo_o1 23 hrs ago I enjoyed this romance movie. I have not read the book so I am not sure how this aligns. I thought this movie had a great plot and gave an interesting relationship dynamic that worked well. It was a fun watch that kept me on the edge of my seat to see how it was going to play out. The acting was also good which did not make it feel fake, forced, or cringy like some romances. It was a good mixture of comedy and romance and it was a good overall watch. See more Marco L @decatur555 3 days ago This is a pleasant, formula-driven romantic comedy whose most interesting element, for me, is not the fake-dating setup but the academic world around it. Lili Reinhart makes Olive likable and convincing, and Tom Bateman works well enough opposite her, although their chemistry never quite became exceptional for me. What stood out more was the film's recognizable view of university life: ambition, hierarchy, competition, favoritism and people who can become unpleasant when a position, publication or opportunity is at stake. It simplifies academia, of course, but at least it does not treat it as an idealistic bubble. The romance itself is far more conventional, with visible mechanisms and supporting characters often serving the plot rather than feeling fully alive. Still, it is easy to watch, charming enough and carried by Reinhart. As a romance it works; as a softened glimpse of academic politics, I found it more interesting than expected. See more Mara Eugenia T @Eugenie 3 days ago Definitely Recommend It See more Valentina S @RT64706303 5 days ago The book actually made sense. Their relationship developed naturally, little by little, until you could see them falling for each other. In the movie, everything feels so forced and all over the place. They changed the plot so that HE'S the one who suggests the fake relationship, which makes absolutely no sense. They also gave him lines that originally belonged to her, completely changing their meaning and losing the whole point of him having had feelings for her from the start. But what pisses me off the most is that THEY MADE TOM THE ONE WHO INVITES HER TO GIVE THE TALK, INSTEAD OF LETTING HER EARN THAT OPPORTUNITY ON HER OWN, LIKE SHE DID IN THE BOOK. They completely butchered the story and even cut Holden's character altogether. Honestly, the screenwriting choices were ATROCIOUS, and the acting wasn't doing the movie any favors either. I genuinely don't understand how the author could let them butcher her book like this. See more Anna R @laeretakanna 6 days ago Love this book and desperately wanted to love this movie but it fell flat. The chemistry wasn’t there at all. Adam was too stiff, there was no knowledge of his actual yearning for her, and then all of a sudden they’re having sex? The last 30 min were especially disappointing. The whole situation with Tom and how Adam handled it and how everything came to light was a total flop. There was such potential! 😭 See more Lini B @linchen Oct 17, 2026 It was just akward watching them interact and all of a sudden they were in love. The book made the plot longer and more predictable. In the movie you don't really see chemistry between them and in the book they flirt and interact cuter. The chemistry between the actors is also non existing sadly. See more Read all reviews
