'The Island/Hadaka no shima' could be depressing were it not for stark poetry of conception and realization by cinematographer Kiyomi Kuroda.
magnificent cinematography and the film is nearly without dialogue. between swaying boats on the water and the hypnotic music it lulled me to sleep a couple times. still well worth watching
