This was really heart-warming
Redford kills the role of an infamous robber and Spacek is, well, Spacek. Light entertainment - but fitting for the biopic.
This movie is not bad, it's even sweet and enjoyable, slow-pacing with wonderful Affleck performance in a supporting role, but the sad thing is that they started not only diversify the present, they started to diversify the past also: at times, watching this, you wonder if the action isn't taking place in some developed African country with white minority in it.
Robert Redford, Casey Affleck, Tom Waits and Sissy Spacek give stand out performances for the five stars here. Why is Sissy Spacek not in more films?
This movie was an excellent story about facts not fiction. Some audiences need the flash and glitter of special effects movies to stay entertained. This was not that. This movie was a little deeper and you had to think about what was going on. (Not a virtue of a lot of movie goers today) the movie was deeply entertaining in a very simplistic way.
A must watch movie and I'm very glad I did.
Pretty good performance by the legendary Robert Redford in what is supposed to be his final film. It' not going down as one of his all time great performances. It will probably bore a lot of people due to it's very slow paced story line.
Just what the world wasn’t waiting for - a nostalgic and sleepy heist film/octogenarian rom-com mashup. The action carries zero stakes and the suspense isn’t even a thing. In a bank robbery movie?! All except Robert Redford or Sissy Spacek completists may skip this one.
I read the audience reviews after watching the movie (thankfully) and realized there are a lot of people that miss the nuances of a wonderful film like this one. All movies are not action packed blockbusters. Some require deep thought and appreciation for intelligent filmmaking. Unfortunately in a world of minimal face to face social relationships, enjoying novels instead of youtube videos, movies that make you think is lost on the majority of people who cannot stand to relax and focus on what's really important.
it is boring and Casey Affleck could at least make an effort!
What a horrible movie. Just boring and stupid. Three old guys who rob banks is certainly unusual, but that alone isn't enough meat for a story. What is the story? Other than three old guys rob banks. Toward the end Redford sees one of the cops that has been chasing him in a restaurant. So he goes and talks to him in the restroom. Why did he do that? It made no sense. Then the cop - who recognizes him as the bank robber - doesn't immediately arrest him. Why? Again - made no sense. Then Redford gets arrested and goes to jail, but he's back out in a very short amount of time. Why was his sentence so short? Then he starts robbing banks again. Yawn. To make matters worse, Casey Affleck chose to speak in a weird mumble that was difficult to understand and just annoying. I guess that's "acting"?
