Cameron Diaz may have top billing but Leslie Mann is the real star of The Other Woman, a sisterhood revenge pic sure to be a big hit with women everywhere.

All things considered, this movie is fine. Although I have to say Cameron Diaz is looking a little rough these days. It strains the imagination to believe that a guy would cheat on the far more appealing Kate.

[Not a] masterpiece of the human condition, but [Nick Cassavetes] has managed to take a paint-by-numbers premise and inject it with enough laughs and heart to keep you entertained.

The result is a well-meaning film that might provide a few laughs and maybe some deserved escapism, depending on your content tolerance. But if you look for anything beyond that, the cracks will be a bit too obvious.

But, but, but: Mann and Diaz make a surprisingly entertaining comedy team, swiping at each other with impeccable timing... the whole enterprise is at least 40 percent better than you ever thought it could be.

Kate Upton busts out in buoyant debut turn.

Though Nine to Five played out as an ensemble film, The Other Woman is totally taken over by Mann, who swipes every scene with her hilariously sympathetic portrayal of a needy, ditzy, and slightly manic wife.

Mann is the one who practically makes the picture, winning most of the laughs with her expert timing, quirky delivery, and general go-for-broke abandon.

The gags may lurch from hit to miss but the buff stars' equally toned acting skills and some inspired bit-casting make this one to watch - probably with the girls on home release.

Make no mistake about it: This is a mean-spirited movie. But because the whole idea of the show is about women set on revenge, it remains funny and breezy despite its shallow characters. It follows in the female footsteps of 'Bridesmaids.'

A true "screwball" comedy, one that should keep you still laughing long after the film is over

For all its faults, there is a kind of genius in the way that it takes the rom-com raison d'etre - the desire to see two lovable people fall in love with each other - and diverts it for its own purposes.

Scatological humor aside, there are enough bright elements in The Other Woman that allow the film to occasionally rise above the mire, and chief among them is Leslie Mann.

Not at all mandatory theater viewing, but as far as date night goes, both guys and gals will find themselves in pretty good hands with this one.

The Other Woman is actually at its worst when it tries to be a big, broad, stereotypical big-studio comedy ... and if the film has an MVP, it's Mann.

Cassavetes is certainly guilty of dragging out the action and overcooking the finale, but this all makes for good naughty fun, nonetheless.

The saving grace is the presence of Mann and Diaz, who long ago appeared in the same film (1996's She's the One, also about infidelity) and strike sparks in this one.
