Critic Reviews for The People Vs. Paul Crump
The provocatively detached perspective that Friedkin brings to these violent scenes points ahead to his features Cruising and Rampage, and like the latter film, this asks viewers to think long and hard about the validity of capital punishment.
Economical yet flamboyantly righteous, as it should have been -- the existence of the film played at least a small part in keeping Crump out of the chair.
Audience Reviews for The People Vs. Paul Crump
before the Thin Blue Line or Central Park 5, Friedkin saved a man from certain death through gritty dramatization on a miniscule budget, and though it doesn't directly invoke the Civil Rights struggle you can feel it in the soul of it. crudely shot and edited (and I should take off another point for that weird water drip sound effect) but totally impactful, and Crump makes for a compelling subject.
