Movie Info

In this romance, a young couple's happiness is violently destroyed during a car accident in which the young man is left in a coma and the girl's face is ruined. The boy's snooty mother, never having liked the girl, uses the accident to break up the lovers by offering the girl's poor mother money, for badly needed plastic surgery, if the girl will never again see her love. The deal is done, and after the boy finally awakens he is told that his girlfriend has died. But despite the mother's machinations, true love is not easily vanquished. The plot is based on a story by Danielle Steele.

Audience Reviews for The Promise

There is a lot of honesty and truth in what it wants to say, especially in the way it avoids making Marion a one-dimensional villain, but the result is a passable yet sappy love story with good performances but inevitably weakened by its corny dialogue.

Young couple in love, his mother objects. They suffer a horrendous car accident during which her face is destroyed, his mother pays her off with reconstructive surgery. She emerges looking...remarkably similar? He doesn't notice when they met. Uh right. Gooey nonsense at least has nice San Francisco locations and decent actors working with a silly script.
