Charles P @RT36323923 Sep 19 The last ten minutes of storyline don't hold up to hard scrutiny, but the film itself is a fine little meditation on guilt and sin. The fake preacher chooses to spend the night in a boat that by coincidence he shares with the escaped convict that he had used as the scapegoat to cover his crime. But, wait there is more! He suddenly decides to come clean and the other guy kills him. In the final scene the woman who had a settled life as the sheriff’s girlfriend decides to abandon everything and leave town carrying a suitcase and her adolescent brother. Until then there was a reasonable story of a fugitive killer who responds to a minimal provocation by killing the guy who gave him a lift. Of course an alcoholic who drives a van as he gulps red wine right from the bottle is a little extreme. The main actors do a decent job playing in the unlikely situations of the script. Shea Whigham and Michael Shannon give decent performances. The script is a little slow in places. Scott Teems did an alright job directing this movie. I liked this motion picture because of the drama and mystery.
