See more 06/18/2018 In this French-Israeli produced documentary in English and Hebrew, Tomer Persico of Tel Aviv University points out that Israel faces what he calls a "irresolvable paradox": A triangle of Israeli ends exist -- democratic, Jewish, and a single whole land of Israel from the Jordan to the Mediterranean. Demographics of rapidly growing non-Jewish populations dictate that all three ends of the triangle cannot continue to exist. "One of the sides of that triangle has to be dropped," Persico says. In this film, Israeli writer-director Shimon Dotan shines a critical light on a key impediment to Israel dropping the idea of the greater state of Israel -- settlers who have taken up residence in territories that Israel occupied in the 1967 war. The film takes a skeptical view of the settlers that may unnerve ardent supporters of Israel, but it nonetheless presents a frightening view of the reality that the settlers have built. It also reminds us how overly optimistic Labor leaders Rabin and Peres were, and how detrimental to a two-state solution Likud leaders Begin and Sharon were. At times, the film may prove uncomfortable, but it provides an important service by defining the challenge. See more 04/05/2017 Very insightful and disturbing documentary.
