Jason P Aug 23 This very early mystery talkie has a superb cast with Fredric March in one of his first film roles. His real-life wife Florence Eldridge also appears for the first time with him and she is really good. The acting all around is wonderful with Neil Hamilton especially standing out due to his showy part and energetic and enthusiastic performance. The mystery is well written but as this is a film from 1929, the dialogue is frequently hard to follow especially when the characters are speaking quickly. But classic film buffs (especially of the early sound mysteries) should find it appealing with Eugene Pallette playing a not-too bright detective that he did in later mysteries as well.
