Serge Buren (Jean Reno) and Cartier (Alban Lenoir) operate a tough Parisian police unit which uses unorthodox methods but gets results. However, their methods have fallen out of favor with the new boss, Becker (Thierry Neuvic), who's trying to deploy a new level of discipline within the police force. The fact that his wife -- fellow cop Margaux (Caterina Murino) -- is having an affair with Buren only complicates matters, as does a vicious robbery that leaves one victim dead and the whole precinct on the hunt for the killers...
"Antigang" is a french remake of the 2012 film "The Sweeney", which was inspired by the popular television series The Sweeney (1975-1978). Not sure though what this film or the british version is supposed to have in common with the classic tv-show The Sweeney. "Antigang" tries to be an action filled and violent cop thriller with a nod and a wink to both "Heat" and "Point Break". The depiction of how the french police force behave in duty is both absurd and silly in many ways. They would hardly get away with most of their antics in reality. The mix between comedy and action doesn´t really work in a satisfying way and it´s quite obvious that director Benjamin Rocher got lost in his attempt to be both funny and action packed. "Antigang" is just too formulaic and straight forward with no uniqueness to it nor excitement to be honest. The characters are stereotypical and way over the top. Jean Reno isn´t what he used to be, but I did enjoy the lovely Caterina Murino´s character.
