Confusing and badly directed.
I was surprised, surprised that a movie with good acting and photography, could be this bad
Crap with crap on the top, more crap than crap in crapland
Well cast, unusual western which is visually stunning, even if the story is plodding at times.
I do not come even close to understanding why The Timber is as highly rated as it is. There's some gorgeous nature shots, absolutely, but not a single other thing of value. It's incoherent and worse still, commits the cardinal sin of the Entertainment Industry: It's boring. If you're looking for the revival of the Western genre, on't look for it here.
Brothers on a quest to save their home with only one way of doing it by apprehending their father fugitive. Really! How hard this must be ! If only the producers did some character building, explain some of the turn in events. I didn't know who was who, their purpose until they were dead!!! I started to laugh when the Sheriff expresses his deep love for Maggy after she has been shot and killed in front of him!! That's just one example. See I could feel the characters and what they may have meant for each other until they are dead. Could have been done way better
What could have been a plot for an excellent western turned out to be a major bust. There is absolutely no character development and other than paying close attention to the dialogue one would know little about any background of any character. The entire movie feels like there should be an underlying theme on par with Stanley Kubrick films. But in reality it comes off as unorganized with the director making last minute additions to the story line on a "oh and then this will happen" or "so and so is connected to so and so" without ever building up to it or pulling the viewer down the path with the story. If you ever wanted to be a fly on the wall this film will accomplish at least that much as you will most likely find it as confusing and random as a fly probably finds the average humans life
Slow, mumbling and disjointed..
Love the movie. Great story and interesting.
Woeful. A boring story badly told, which left us out in the cold. it's one redeeming feature was that it was short resulting in it earning one star. There was little attempt to build the characters for the viewer and no real plot of any interest.
