Might have made for some minor grubby fun -- maybe as filler between films at a horror-themed festival -- but as a full length film, it is little more than a joke and not an especially inspired one at that.

I say this but it's sort of funny when something is this not-funny. Also funny is the way The Toybox shoehorns in a few dad-in-a-chimney Gremlins monologues for bizarrely-pitched pathos.

Tom Nagel obviously had a plethora of ideas and wanted to experiment with them all at once, but this unfortunately leaves the film feeling top heavy and very clunky in its execution.

I'm shocked to say that I didn't hate The Toybox. I think it does just enough to be taken somewhat seriously and provides a few valid jump-scares. If you don't think about the plot too hard, you might even enjoy it.

A thoroughly inept horror film likely to inspire more eye rolls than scares. Spare yourself this waste of time and leave The Toybox for the recycling bin.
