“The Unbinding” is an invigorating cerebral foray into the Newkirks’ captivating playground of high strangeness. Evoking elements of folk horror and shadowy esoterica, Pfeiffer weaves a magical narrative that is simultaneously mystifying and enlightening. Go to Full Review

J B @Jameboat Jan 18 The movie starts out feeling a bit too indie/amatuer drama, but they manage to develop the concept with a couple of scenes creating intrigue as the characters discover more about the idol. But it progresses to nothing, any story thread leading the viewer on peters off and instead of a mockumentary/horror, it settles its identity as simply a mockumentary. The two stars given are for the novel idea of the scanning scene and what followed, but in terms of execution, conclusion and pay off, as a viewer youre left wholly unsatisfied. There's a sense of smugness in its conclusion that the characters have achieved something significant, when from the viewers perspective there's been no threat, no overcoming adversity, no narrow miss. They've scanned a block of wood, googled Danish folklore, and pliered a few nails. Take a bow. See more rich T Oct 21 Don't waste your time with this nonsense! This "documentary" was the biggest load of bullshit that was made even more ridiculous by the pretentious on and on babbling by Greg Newkirk that is self deluded in thinking he accomplished something profoundly important here! There is 0 recorded evidence for a premise that tells the audience that this wood carving defies the laws of physics in the known universe that is unleashed any time its released from a old box and wrapped dirty pillow case! LOL. They should study the properties of the pillow case since it has the power to stop the supernatural power of the piece of wood inside! The intent is for the viewer to give up al logic, reasoning and questioning, as it relays all of these made up "happenings". The average person would reason: "OK I have this wood statue that has the power and abilities to throw itself across a room, pull Jesus's (competing statues) off walls, put people into seizures, OH and also makes wet footprints on carpets, but I don't feel the need to get any evidence of it actually happened" LETS BE REAL If you had a statue that denies the 3 laws of energy and propulsion, You would have this thing set up with lights and 10 cameras rolling 24 hours a day and within a week, you would have NASA to your house observing it. Within a month, you would be auctioning this off for a billion dollars.....BUT NO.....all they got was 2 seconds of grainy motion video (at night) from 10 feet away where the thing only nudges half an inch (pulled by a string). This film makes even the lowest budget Bigfoot siting seem credible! See more Patricia J Oct 14 This is the problem with people who dabble in things of which they have no true knowing, It was interesting that during the channeling by the "witch" that the bound being was calling them morons, basically. They got played, which is what masters of darkness of are so good at. Wasn't it clear that the people who had found her and housed her and the 3-D printer guy felt afraid in their own homes with the object? And wasn't it clear when the entrapped entity was enraged and destroyed the crucifix, what they were dealing with? The figure should have either been returned to the exact same space where it was found, intact with the nails left in the eyes and the noose on the neck or been taken to a truly knowledgeable person to return the dark spirit to where it came from or send it to an ascended master who would know how to return it to the light. Instead, they unleashed this successfully bound monster so it could harm others in that beautiful and sacred area with which I am so familiar. So frustrating to watch podcasters and now film makers with their inflated egos influencing other naive people. Oh well. See more Margaret @Margaret47 11/03/2024 This film feels like a Portlandia sketch about ghost hunting. I really, really wanted it to end with the realisation that they had been misled and were way out of their depth and had released something horrible. A suitable comeuppance for their pride. As it is I don't know what value this will hold for anyone unless they actually believe ghosts and hauntings are real. Which hopefully isn't very many people. Most of these shows do capitalize on scare factor this did not. However I couldn't help but question why research wasn't done before the actual unbinding rather than after. They were to busy? Not buying it. It's definitely worth the time to watch. Just take it for entertainment. Not a documentary. See more lisa m 10/09/2024 An intriguing documentary from the start. It did not sensationalise the experience and was respectful and balanced in its account of the experiences of the people involved in the documentary. The main people in the documentary were really eloquent in explaining the paranormal and their experiences and the way in which they dealt with it all was sensible and respectful. It certainly changed my view of the paranormal. See more Read all reviews
