Channels the world-weary '70s paranoia of 'Taxi Driver' and 'The Conversation' through the imposingly clinical formal approach of process-fixated auteurs like Robert Bresson or Michael Haneke.

The storytelling lacks some polish but the picture builds to a powerful, high body-count climax.

Audience Reviews for The Veteran

½

A simple, taut revenge/thriller that does what it should in an hour & a half. It is led by the brilliance of one Toby Kebbell, who deserves much more than he should be credited for since he singlehandedly carries the film himself. Give this film more than one viewing, as it demands & deserves some respect.

Awful. While the combat sequences are great, especially the gun battle near the end of the film, this movie takes forever to get off the ground, and is flat-out boring for most of its duration. Plus the ending is pointless and horrible, which really kills the film.

The emotional ambiguity of the protagonist infects the viewer - so much so that even a bloodbath climax engenders no feeling, one way or the other.
