In 1970, paranormal investigators and demonologists Lorraine (Vera Farmiga) and Ed (Patrick Wilson) Warren are summoned to the home of Carolyn (Lili Taylor) and Roger (Ron Livingston) Perron. The Perrons and their five daughters have recently moved into a secluded farmhouse, where a supernatural presence has made itself known. Though the manifestations are relatively benign at first, events soon escalate in horrifying fashion, especially after the Warrens discover the house's macabre history.

A modern horror classic done right. It builds tension slowly, relies on atmosphere over cheap scares, and delivers genuinely creepy moments. The performances sell the fear, making it effective and rewatchable even years later.

The Conjuring is my favorite movie of all time because it perfectly blends masterful direction, a compelling story, and outstanding acting. Directed by James Wan, the film creates a deeply unsettling atmosphere without relying on cheap jump scares. Instead, the tension builds slowly and effectively, making every moment feel earned and genuinely frightening. Wan’s attention to detail and pacing keeps the audience constantly on edge while still allowing the story to breathe. The story itself is engaging and grounded, which makes the horror feel more real and disturbing. The performances, especially by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, are exceptional and bring emotional depth to the film. Their portrayal of Ed and Lorraine Warren makes the characters feel believable and human, which adds to the overall impact of the movie. Because of its strong direction, gripping story, and powerful acting, The Conjuring stands out as a near-perfect horror film and remains my all-time favorite.
