In its quieter, sparer moments, however, The Wind begins to live up to the unstated obliqueness of its title.

A marvelously unsettling and elliptical tale of frontier terror.

Sure some of the general horror genre movie tactics are used to get a rise out of the audience, but the clever use of the setting and time period make this stand apart from usual fare.

Western horror The Wind uses isolation and barrenness to spin a spooky tale about hysteria, patriarchy, and religious fervor.
April 16, 2019
The Wind is atmospheric, unique-looking and has moments of real fear. It tries too hard to be a brain-teaser, but it still works as a horror movie.

The Wind explores the fears that beset even strong, capable women stuck struggling for survival without a supportive community or social contact.

The Wind, above all, shows talent amongst its edges, primarily that of director Emma Tammi. There is enough here to ultimately recommend it, especially for those fans of either Westerns or horror.

The Wind delivers a subtle, paranormal fright - in a place that doesn't offer much in the way of excitement. And, I'm pretty sure that was the point.

The best horror turns the mirror on ourselves. This outing has flashes of fright, but it falters a bit on the editing front. Either way, I can't wait to see what [Emma] Tammi has up her sleeve next.

All the elements are in place for this scary female-driven, western-horror that exists somewhere between "Meek's Cutoff" and "The Evil Dead." Tense!

Even as the storyline jumps around in time, it's never difficult to track the narrative-or to remain immersed in the unsettling atmosphere.
April 5, 2019
Tammi's direction is mature and nuanced, with a keen eye not just to the world this woman inhabits, but the existential terror that hides behind every branch breaking.

Although the nonlinear narrative gets muddled and repetitive, The Wind remains incessantly scary, with haunting moments that linger after the credits have rolled.

"The Wind" is ultimately more allegorical than literal. It's not about history, or pioneer life, or bloodthirsty ghosts. It's about a loneliness so overwhelming that it becomes terrifying.
