Movie Info

June (Watts) was once a celebrated counter-culture figure, but that was a decade ago. She now lives alone in her fifth floor South Bronx apartment, having all but cut herself off from the outside world. It's the notorious "Summer of Sam" and June only has to look out of her window to see the violence escalating with the brutal summer heat. The city is on a knife's edge, a pressure-cooker about to explode into the incendiary 1977 New York blackout riots.

Critic Reviews for The Wolf Hour

All Critics (10) | Top Critics (3) | Fresh (7) | Rotten (3)

  • As The Wolf Hour is engrossing for much of its anxious timeline, it's the inner journey Watts provides that sticks with you most of all.

  • Second-rate Polanski fodder that crawls along with not much force beyond the neurotic protagonist's simmering dread and the vague menace of an intermittently buzzing intercom with no one there.

  • Banks Griffin constructs an ambience of interior terror that finds its strength in its subtlety. [Full Review in Spanish]

  • Naomi Watts delivers a striking raw nerve performance in an uneven film.

  • The Wolf Hour is a slow burning nightmare that brilliantly blurs the lines between the real and the imagined.
