Green isn't much good at self-promotion. He's enthusiastic, thoughtful and sincere about every step he takes, and his attitude spreads to documentarian Jeremy Workman and, by extension, to us.

If The World Before Your Feet never gets to the psychological breakthrough it seems to be chasing, it's a very enjoyable slice of quixotic cinema, tagging along with a cheerful monomaniac...

Green's openness to learning about himself and others by going out to notice and appreciate what most overlook-a crumbled landmark, an unexpected garden-is edifying.

While some more skeptical strangers seem to think Green is wasting his time, "World" makes it easy to admire the logic of his explanation that "It's just about the value of paying attention to something."

Like the apostles who followed Forrest Grump as he ran cross country, one could find Buddhist wisdom or metaphorical meaning in Green's work, even if it's not necessarily there.

Filmmaker Workman, who's behind [Green] every step of the way without ever getting in the way, allows the city and its colorful denizens to take center stage.
