I've spent enough time in Appalachia to understand some of the difficulties faced by people raised in that area and have seen and known many from the days of my youth in Cincinnati, the Western root of the culture that inhabits the foreboding yet startlingly beautiful countryside East to the Carolinas. Having left now 40 years ago I return to the memories with a better understanding. Life lived close to the land has it's values. Life is tragedy, always has been and will probably always be because it's what humans are at core, but sometimes a light shines through a little. This is a tender story about that light.

The world made straight is it OK film with some good performance is an interesting story. Unfortunately the movie never really focus as much on the history aspect resulting in some dull scenes. The film had bigger ambitions but I think it needed a bigger director and a bigger budget. Still it’s an interesting little film but I think many people will enjoy a quick watch,

Interesting aspects but missing a core. Feeling certain parts tamed down, especially teacher Leonard's story. He mostly just sits around reading. Dina's story not easy to understand. Guessed some of the historical story. Acting and production are top notch. Accents not easy to understand. Basically I guess it's very hard to like these people.

just for Noah Wylie's role, but so much more. a simple tale about growing up and leaving home only with drug dealers, blood feuds, love, and love lost. got me in the feels. Now Steaming on Netflix

Sort of interesting take on post-Civil War feuds in the South, but it doesn't really go anywhere.

Way better than expected, but still pretty slow and I never felt the big connection with the past that is so central to the plot.
