Audience Reviews for The Little Princess
A story about how easy it is for a rich little princess to become a poor little pauper, and however innocent and naive it is, the belief that with hopes and dreams the good life will return again. Pickford as Sara Crewe is sent to a boarding school in England for specially selected girls (those whose family can pay highly or will come into money soon). She misses her father who serves in the army in India. Her charm wins her popularity with the other girls as a storyteller. A good portion of the movie is a storytelling sequence where Pickford plays a slave girl in the tale of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. Sara Crewe is so kind hearted that she even befriends a Cockney servant girl at the school named Becky (played by Pitts). As fate would have it this friendship pays off when it is announced that her father died and she is left with nothing. The headmistress of the school lets her thin veil of kindness drop and the only charity she can manage is to make Sara another servant girl instead of throwing her out on the street. There are several fanciful moments in the film, a couple good laughs, and you might even tear up a little.
