Audience Reviews for They Bite

They Bite is a low-budget slice of heaven as director Brett Piper (A Nymphoid Barbarian in Dinosaur Hell, Drainiac!) delivers us some bad FX, gore, fish monster aliens, Ron Jeremy, and yeah, even some titties flopping around. They Bite plays like a poor man's Humanoids From the Deep as fish monsters start popping up out of the ocean and start killing beach community residents. The unlikely duo of ichthyologist Mel Duncan and porn director...Mel Duncan, along with a small porn crew that includes everyone's favorite pornstar Ron Jeremy, as well as late comedian Charlie Barnett (DC Cab) come together to try and solve the mystery of these deadly fish and come across an apparent alien conspiracy that never makes itself known until the very end of the movie! That being said, the effects are cheesy but fun, as is the comedy (which manages to succeed several times throughout). This is a Brett Piper movie, as he pretty much tackles everything from writing, directing, and effects, so this is definitely recommended to Piper enthusiasts, but I'm sure fans of this sort of sub-genre of horror-comedy will dig it as well. Though the film was made in the early 90's, it's got a fun 80's feel to it. If interested in watching this film, I'd recommend carefully researching the right kind of VHS copy (as this film is VERY unfortunately absent in the world of DVD thus far), because many copies were pressed that are heavily censored, specifically involving scenes with 90's Playboy centerfold/comic book hero Susie Owens, who has a great scene involving an attack on her that leaves her with certain vaginal powers (which leads to a great nude scene that's unfortunately not on every VHS copy). Brett Piper's equally silly, once-lost gem has presented itself on gorgeous DVD a couple of years back, why can't They Bite get that same treatment. Fun movie!
