Elaborate, very expensive and very, very bad, Thir13en Ghosts is filled with ghouls who look like rejects from for Michael Jackson's Thriller video.

A more fitting tribute to William Castle would have been to create a horror flick you could sit through without consistently squirming in abject loathing.
August 26, 2010
Brutally violent horror remake is a huge waste.

There isn't enough dry ice in the world to conceal the rot of stupidity hovering over "13 Ghosts." With Embeth Davidtz and Matthew Lillard both overacting to a lower power in supporting roles, there apparently also aren't enough acting coaches.

Like the huge glass house that serves as its centerpiece, the film is shiny, sterile, bland, vacuous, and completely pointless.

March 24, 2002
A loud, stupid and incomprehensible piece of junk
March 22, 2002
By any objective accounting, Thirteen Ghosts is exactly a baker's dozen too many -- this is a zero of a film.
March 5, 2002
A high-budget spectacle of garish overkill.
March 4, 2002
Substitutes the original's goofy camp for an orgy of gore, noise and mindless mayhem.
February 26, 2002
You don't like to see someone like F. Murray Abraham awkwardly hamming his way through a role. It's actually pretty sad.
January 3, 2002
Like that inscrutable pseudo-word 'Thir13en,' this film is a messy jumble.
December 9, 2001
The film's biggest letdown is the almost complete absence of real scares.
