Movie Info

Tim is a young man with below average intelligence. He works as a builder's labourer, and is often taken advantage of by his fellow workers and other people. Mary asks Tim to work around her yard for a day. The day stretches into a few weekends, and the two soon become good friends. Some people, however, are suspicious of their friendship which seems to be continually strengthening, accusing Mary of taking advantage of Tim's innocence. Will changing circumstances in Tim's family life change his relationship with Mary?

The slight sentimental film is nothing special.

A 22-year-old Mel Gibson plays a mildly 'retarded' young man in this May-December story that is much more than just that. No cheap sensationalism here; this story rings true. You can see a star in the making in Gibson's performance.

Mel Gibson's second film and it is pretty apparent that the young Aussie is a great acting talent. The film itself is very intriguing, despite a oddly slow paced film. The best part of the movie however is the dynamic between a slow minded man, and his elder parents not the budding relationship between a woman and her gardener. All in all great little movie to watch if you are having a bit of an insomniac attack, and just feel like watching TV all night and into the wee morning hours.
