Movie Info

Released from prison after serving a 30-year sentence for murder, notorious triad gangster Fai (Nick Cheung) quickly discovers just how much Mongkok has changed over the past three decades. Upon learning that his old friend Porky (Willi Wai) didn't advance to become the leader of the gang as expected, Fai finds himself harassed by the very gangsters he used to call his brothers. When Porky begins making advances toward pretty Pamela (Monica Mok) and Fai comes to her defense, loyalties between old friends gradually begin to erode.

Audience Reviews for To Live and Die in Mongkok (Mong kok gaam yuk)

½

One big selling point of the film was it had included all 4 winners (males & females in leadings & supportings) in the acting categories in the 28th Hong Kong Film Awards (2009) in the cast. The story is indeed typical & corny; & once again the dizzy, swinging photography is so unbearably annoying. What really impresses perhaps is Wong Jing's sentiment of the fall of (independency of) Hong Kong Cinema followed by the trend of co-production with the Mainland China investment & studios rising.
