Audience Reviews for Toh sik (Color Blossoms)

Hongkong's famous photographer and director Yon Fan's 11th feature. Terrific shots and terrible acting and story co-exist in this film. It makes me recognize again that the core of the film is definitely a story - not fancy images. Some shots are really really beautiful, but camera-work and editing are ver amateurish, and all the actresses here are unbearablly unattractive (not only looking, but also make-up and costumes are bad). They wear like and are meant to film like whores, and it is as if the film is the showcase of porn actresses or something. If you watch this, you can re-recognize how great Kar-Wai Wong is... Other films I watched by Yon Fan: The Story of Rose (1985) - 1 Srar. Starring Maggie Cheung and Yun-Fat Chow. Just terrible melodrama. I cannot believe how a film could be this terrible with this casting. Peony Pavilion (2001) - 3 Stars. Starring Rie Miyazawa and Joey Wang. The decadent and immoral mood is very comfortable. Two actresses are well-shot, too. This one is worth to check out.
