Filled with colorful characters that seem real and a surprising sense of spontaneity, spurred in part by its backdrop. Director David MacKenzie has pulled off a movie with the kind of easy charm that most romcoms struggle with.

The climax is almost unbearably joyful. Feel-good movie of the year, thus far? Absolutely.

Unlike most romantic comedies in which the couple-to-be are constantly kept apart, in You Instead they are literally cuffed together. It's an interesting inversion and thanks to the excellent leads, it works a treat

Cheerfully rocking alternative to Hollywood sappy, romantic comedies. . .Treadaway and Tena are a magnetic roller coaster at the center. Casting actors who can rock pays off.

Director David MacKenzie goes indie both with the washed out video look of the images and the ambient Altmanesque sound design.

It took a bit for me to get into it, but the characters eventually won me over.

While the story is pure contrivance -- two antagonistic performers get handcuffed together, fighting until they fall in love -- the soundtrack is lively and the characters grow on you.

It's a nice, mud-free way to spend a bit of time rocking out in the rain with the Scots.

If the film is to work at all - and it eventually does - the two 27-year-old leads must radiate enough star quality to obviate the ramshackle plot. They just about do.

"Tonight You're Mine" is as ephemeral as its title - as thin as a jukebox dime but pretty catchy all the same.

A breezy romantic comedy that makes up in energy and atmosphere what it lacks in plot... The pair may be yoked together by sturdy handcuffs, but the story is as flimsy as a daisy chain.

Enjoyable British romcom enlivened by strong performances and two stand-out scenes in particular.

The film shouldn't work, and for the most part doesn't; but it left me smiling.

Thoroughly enjoyable, with the zing of real crowds and musicians overcoming some very corny plot turns.

You Instead is a really charming film which captures all the magic and mud of the perfect festival experience.

It all ends pretty predictably...but it's been an amiable experience.

It's not quite Before Sunrise with mud and portaloos then, but warm vibes, buzzy crowd scenes and the two leads' enthusiasm will pull you through to the morning after.

With its breezy atmosphere and killer soundtrack, this hipster romantic comedy should prove a crowdpleaser.

We're left with the deflated feeling that we've witnessed something initially promising that proves wholly inconsequential.

What could have been a perfectly fine premise for a high-key comedy is negated by the fact that both lead characters are incalculably unappealing.
