Willfully or not, the director misses one opportunity after another to pull back and assess.
At best, the film is a Rorschach testimonial, lionizing its subject while offering enough objectivity to allow non-believers to opt out. At worst, it's a very long infomercial.
Though Mr. Berlinger had final cut, it's hard to find a single moment here that would be out of place in a promotional video.
By existing entirely within the confines of the world [Robbins has] created, the movie actively resists any possible skepticism about his unique skill.
Intense and dazzling ...
Those expecting insight into Robbins' life or career, let alone the overall self-help industry, will be disappointed by this atypically non-investigative Joe Berlinger documentary.
Inspiring but biased docu; lots of cursing.
Despite the film's titular claim, Robbins is very much allowed to play the guru for the full 116 minutes, with no one willing to separate the sage advice from the snake oil.
Tony Robbins isn't a guru; he just plays one in your mind.
As far as investigations into the inner workings of the modern psychotherapy-industrial complex go, this is edutainment of the highest order.
This doc is largely an unquestioning love letter to this towering, burly, rough-spoken choirmaster.
Robbins's shtick is entry-level psychoanalysis and secondhand prosperity gospel. This is not to question his sincerity, but chiefly because there are better questions to ask.
A fascinating look at Tony Robbins and an explanation through visuals on why he has such a devoted following. It's hard to be cynical in watching something this moving.
