A Bleak, Cold and Merciless Drama...
½ December 14, 2011
Beautifully acted, fascinating criticism of contemporary issues like racism and addiction, told with heart and dignity, through the eyes of several unfortunate Marseilles inhabitants and still unfortunately a tad over-long. Jean-Pierre Darroussin and Ariane Ascaride are superb though.

Another excellent film by Guediguian. It seems that his leftist leanings have got a bit less orthodox with time- the bourgeois characters are not depicted as quite as ridiculous as in his prior films. Still, solidarity of the workers of Marseilles in almost hopeless situations is the main thing again.

Dark and depressing, but honest. Right wing politicians would not bother with poor Michele's plight and the left is only pretending to care. They are more interested in holding on to their powerful positions.

Not so good very much for my type of choice!!!

French realism with lots of social pathos and a story as stratified as the society it investigates.

French movie ( European art cinema) extremely realistic, depressive, (a mother who lives the daughter of a drug addict crisis) the port of Marseilles and excellent performances! Recommended!

Extremely realistic - albeit depressing - film which provides a good overview of French society. Credible acting by the main characters.

Extremely sad, but beautiful with an end that gives a little hope, although the story itself expresses hopelesness and dispair.

At first this movie seemed very intriguing. However, I wound up being extremely disappointed by the end of the flick...there were too many endings and not enough resolutions for me. Provides an interesting take on drug use and its legality.
