Movie Info

Sometimes inspiration is found in unexpected places. Choreographer Allison Orr finds beauty and grace in garbage trucks -- and in the men and women who pick up our trash. She joins city sanitation workers on their daily routes to listen, learn, and ultimately to try to convince them to collaborate in a unique dance performance. Hard working, often carrying a second job, their lives are already full with work, family and dreams of their own. But some step forward, and after months of rehearsal, two dozen trash collectors and their trucks perform an extraordinary spectacle. On an abandoned airport runway, thousands of people show up to see how in the world a garbage truck can "dance." (c) Official Site

That Garrison has created such a vibrant, moving document of such an evanescent state of grace is a small miracle in itself.

A warm thank you to those whose work is mostly invisible and entirely necessary.

A short yet satisfying glimpse behind the scenes of waste management that feels like a breath of fresh air in a field that typically leaves people holding their nose.

In addition to being fascinating to observe the process over time, Garrison's focus is a smart move since his midrange camerawork doesn't fully capture the magnitude and magnificence of the show.

Garrison's thoughtful, eloquent documentary illuminates the reality that all work matters and has dignity, no matter the invisibility of the labor.

Warm, delightful and poignant. You'll never look at a garbage collector the same way again.

Audience Reviews for Trash Dance

A wonderful film documenting the choreographer Allison Orr's creation of a dance in Texas featuring trash workers as the performers. Enlightening and uplifting. My only complaint was that it could have been cut down slightly in the middle.

'Trash Dance'. Truly emotional and uplifting in telling the stories of people whose profession goes severely under appreciated.
