Many better have been written, but the strangely fascinating something that is Robert Louis Stevenson is only in Treasure Island. Only a hint of this something is in Mr. Tourneur's screen version, and that hint is in the first few feet.

Those least familiar with Stevenson's story will enjoy it most, because, while it has many excellent scenes and some good acting, it falls so far short of its original that any comparison of the two must emphasize its defects.

The scenes were realistic and the trials and tribulations of the treasure hunters made a remarkably good series of films.

Maurice Tourneur, producer of the film, has followed the story of the classic faithfully and produced a picture that is packed with red-blooded adventure.
