A slow-motion train wreck, a blundering re-imagining of the original through modern, edgy eyes.

I can't figure out how a studio decided to take "Charade," one of the world's most delectable movies, and remake it without a single one of the ingredients that made it great.

A bad remake of a good movie.

You look extra hard, because there has to be something in the film to cling to as art, if not entertainment. But the truth about Charlie is there's nothing to be found.

Jonathan Demme's fumbled remake of Charade tries to mix old-fashioned champagne romance with straight-from-the-bottle swigs of New Wave style.

The Truth About Charlie isn't stupid or dull, but it has just too many flaws for me to recommend it.

Flat, pointless and unexciting.

[Newton]wanders through CHARLIE completely unaware she needs to show some presence and star quality.

The progression of Charlie from a cinematic lark into a yarn that becomes pretty knotty takes a good deal of the helium out of it.

With co-writers Steve Schmidt, Peter Joshua, and Jessica Bendinger, Demme takes a whack at a remake and mucks it up completely.

Attempting to mix a classic Parisian movie with the style of the French New Wave, director Jonathan Demme gets drunk on his own champagne.

Mark Wahlberg...may look classy in a '60s-homage pokepie hat, but as a character he's dry, dry, dry.

Has an uppity musical beat that you can dance to, but its energy can't compare to the wit, humor and snappy dialogue of the original. If I want music, I'll buy the soundtrack. If I want a real movie, I'll buy the Criterion DVD.
