This romantic adventure with John Wayne (as engineer for a change), made a year before he became a major star, suffers from Wallace's routine helming and Borden Chase's uneven script.

Never terrible, but never that good.

Audience Reviews for Tycoon

Nice action-romantic with John Wayne who plays a different character than usual. For the first part of the film he plays his standard All-American man, but during the second half he turns to a heel. Laraine Day looks fabulous. The plot had a lot going for it, the photography was nice, the direction OK.

GREAT MOVIE ! I believe this was the one where oklahoma hit oil the first time ! AND the indians were being robbed once again by the white man...

5.5/10. I am not a huge John Wayne fan, this film is a little different than his usual fare. Well produced, nice combination of romance, drama and adventure. Melodramatic and too long, but for the most part it was interesting. Some exciting scenes, too much romance.
