A legendary show for U2 fans, it may also be their best release of the '80s. Taped in support of their first great album, "War," it does capture them at an early peak. The band had built a reputation as a great live act, with concert performances of their songs often surpassing the studio records, and this show is no exception. A few numbers have been edited due to copyright restrictions (a result of U2's fondness for quoting other people's songs during their live performances), but otherwise, nearly everything is here and intact. Shot with standard video cameras of the day, the picture quality isn't the greatest even coming from the original video masters, but the sound mix is excellent.

Just revisited this classic. Great early 80's post punk rock n roll. Live! This is why I became a U2 fan.

Great first live concert video of the rock band U2. During the War album in the early 80's. You get to see live performances of "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "New Years Day". You get to watch the band live and stamp out their live show that make them popular for future years to come. This may not be like the flashy Zoo TV, Vertigo Tour or the 360 Tour but you get a solid concert. Well worth a watch for those U2 fans out there.

As a Hall of Fame band that throughout its career has been categorized as Alternative, Rock, Pop, Adult Contemporary and Classic, it's intriguing to see U2 perform live after only three albums had been released and before they had reached superstardom. Unlike more recent upstart bands, this concert clearly demonstrates the skill of all four members of the band in their respective instruments, singing and live performing. Weather and technical difficulties are evident and a little distracting but don't ruin this intimate early glimpse of a legendary band at a beautiful venue. 11/26/9

U2 were on the rise when they played at Red Rocks in 1983. The conditions were less than ideal, but the show went on nevertheless. The boys rip through songs from their three albums with intensity and passion, something they have never lacked. My only quibble with this film are the streaks on the screen caused by the stage lights. Other than that, this is a must have for U2 fans both young and old, as it shows the band, while still young, were always talented.
