This is an absorbing documentary about the planning, building, & evolving of modern city spaces. The film is a must for anyone remotely interested in sociology or architecture.

A very nicely constructed documentary that touches on the issues of resource use, population, and city planning.

This film zooms through some of the hottest topic in urban planning in the last 20 years and does with cinematic flare. You have to see this in HD as they fly over sub-urban Phoenix, AZ and then Beijing China, and then through parts of Bogota, Columbia. Fun movie to watch for everyone, but just inspirational if you're working in any planning field.

Very cool overview of what goes into city planning and the future of urban life. It could have been a 10-hour miniseries!

Well, it's kinda my thing. Very informative and touches on nuts and bolts urban design to human rights to the economy and of course, the environment.

A fascinating and I think objective look at theirs and outs of planning parts of a city and what contributes to successful urban living as well as not so successful. It's more entertaining than I make it sound!

What makes a great city? Is it the shops? The restaurants? The local arts centre? Is it the grassy areas for working lunches or the latest nightclubs? In his latest film ‚Urbanized‚?, Gary Hustwitt (Helvetica, Objectified) aims to find out where city development fails, and why there are certain cities that people want to live in. As Joshua Leon so perfectly writes in his Metropolis review, ‚Urbanized is an extraordinarily ambitious attempt to make sense of a world flowing into cities. This visually arresting film, like Hustwitt‚(TM)s past work, elegantly conveys the omnipresence of design in daily life.‚? If you have any interest in where you live, this is essential viewing.

Inspiring ... especially the innovative and tactical thinking in South America.

Not as fleshed out and memorable as Objectified, but still worth a look for its gorgeous imagery.

This doco by the chap who made the excellent Helvetica a few years ago is an appealing survey of modern urban design issues, flitting around the globe to tell various stories about modern cities: the Bogota busways, urban collective gardens in Detroit, smart designs for slum replacements in Santiago, the controversy & protests over the Stuttgart 21 development, and the High Line redevelopment in Manhattan. It's not quite the documentary experience that Helvetica was, and people who are interested in urban design issues will probably have heard many of these stories before. But it's still definitely worth tracking down as a starting point for further research in the area.
