Movie Info

Italian producer Pier A. Caminnecci went to Germany and hired British director Freddie Francis to make this vampire comedy starring his Scandinavian wife, Pia Dagermark (Elvira Madigan). The resultant international mish-mash is neither very scary nor very funny. Dagermark portrays Hollywood actress Betty Williams, who inherits a Balkan castle only to find that her grandmother (also played by Dagermark) was a vampiric witch. There is a great deal of nudity, bad jokes, cheesy visuals, and Ferdy Mayne -- star of this film's superior inspiration, Dance of the Vampires -- as a helicopter-riding Dracula. It's certainly unusual, and horror completists will want to give it a look, but most viewers will find it simultaneously ridiculous and dull, a combination found frequently in Francis' films. ~ Robert Firsching, Rovi

Audience Reviews for Gebissen wird nur nachts (The Vampire Happening)

It's a bit on the goofy side, though a little too wild at times. There isn't a good story, or any good characters, but there are some funny moments. It is rather bland though out though, yet stands out a little from other Italian vampire flicks.

An American heiress (a porno actress) arrives in Transylvania to claim the estate she inherited. (For some strange reason the commercial-airline flight on her way to Europe is showing a porn, of which she just happens to be the "star"). When in her newly-inherited castle in Romania, she soon learns she is identical in appearance to her dead grandmother (who was rumored to be a vampire). The rumor is true and soon many others are turned into the undead when the oft-naked grandma wakes from the dead. More nudity and comedy ensure this vampire tale (with a guest appearance by Count Dracula himself at an orgy) rather enjoyable.

This movie is so bad, it's kind of good. Super cheesy, tons of nudity...supposed to be a vampire comedy but it is not really too funny...only that it is so bad it makes it funny. Most of the time I had no idea what the hell was going on....oh well, gotta love early 70's vampire movies filmed in Germany...hahaha
