Chan's globetrotting action movie features a few brief, impressive car chases and other light moments, but it's largely weighed down by poor writing, bland villains, and a nonsensical plot.

Overall it was a really really fun package... but I really, really would have liked to have seen more martial arts stuff Jackie Chan stuff, fun goofy martial arts action.

As a time passer, die hard Chan fans will probably still find enough, and even if the main man himself feels a little off, there's an overriding sense of fun and vim from the younger cast

This movie defies genre not by seamlessly blending, but by jarringly overstuffing - forget scene by scene, you barely know what kind of movie you're watching minute by minute.

Vanguard is over complicated with a light tone, silly antics, solid gold cars, and Jackie Chan using John Cena's attitude adjustment wrestling maneuver. It has a few decent moments buried within this shiny gold turd of an action film.

For a film that is jam-packed with frenetic action sequences, Vanguard is rarely able to draw the audience's interest.

It's ridiculous and absolutely action packed.

While this isn't classic Jackie Chan, it is a fast paced and fun action film for fans of the genre.

... fans of martial arts films do get some amusing set-pieces.

Chan still handles his fair share of physical stunts in this otherwise lackluster action vehicle, which misses the energy and flair of his previous collaborations with director Stanley Tong.

Vanguard is never dull, it's just really not that good. Chan and his fans deserved better.

The old master shares the screen with young talent - but something is missing.

A subpar globe-hopping action film... Chan is mostly wasted here.... [T]he fight scenes here are, at times, as lame as the CGI lion that mauls a baddie.

In a mere 108 minutes, Hong Kong-based director Stanley Tong packs enough explosions, fisticuffs, vehicle chases and gunplay to fill the entire The Fast and the Furious franchise and still have a little escapist mayhem leftover.

Chan is in a lot of Vanguard's fight scenes, but he shares them with the team of younger agents. So instead of Chan himself handling all the bad guys for five minutes straight, he handles a few and he showcases some new talent.

A James Bond movie -like spectacle. Chan fans will enjoy the action, stunts and fighting. Gold cars, if not Goldfinger.
November 20, 2020
Chan's latest star vehicle didn't need to be anything more than a good work of propaganda, but it's not even compelling on those terms.

I'm one of those who will always pray at the altar of Jackie Chan's greatness, but he's no longer physically capable of making a bad movie watchable.
November 20, 2020
Let's be clear: Vanguard is not a great film. It's one of the lesser works in the Stanley Tong/Jackie Chan oeuvre.

Even a forgetful Jackie Chan movie is still a Jackie Chan movie worth seeking out.
